We all love Portland, and it’s a lot of fun to sometimes laugh at ourselves which is one of the many reasons why Portlandia on IFC is so popular!
Now in it’s 4th season, Fred Armison and Carrie Brownstein are back and funnier than ever. Maybe it’s because they are so spot on!
If you are a fan of the show like we are, consider taking your own tour of “Portlandia” with Travel Portland as your guide. Since our hotel is located just 20 minutes from downtown where many of the scenes are shot, this is an easy trip to make.
Travel Portland breaks down their “Portlandia” itinerary by season’s 1-3. Here are a few of the suggested locations you can find in their guide:
- “The Dream of the ‘90s is Alive in Portland” was shot at Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade in Southeast Portland. Click here to see this sketch.
- “Put a Bird on It” was filmed at Land Gallery on North Mississippi Avenue where you will find plenty of eclectic art, gifts, clothes and of course birds. Click here to watch it.
- “Mixologist” (hilarious sketch featuring Armison’s SNL castmate Andy Samberg) was filmed at North Portland’s Mint/820, a swanky spot known for their happy hour and a tempting food menu to complement it’s dynamic cocktail list. Click here to watch it.
- Toni and Candace’s “Women and Women First Bookstore” sketches are filmed at In Other Words, a volunteer-run, nonprofit, feminist community center and bookstore, on Northeast Killingsworth Street.

About Travel Portland
Travel Portland works to maintain the vibrancy of the region by promoting the Portland metropolitan area as a preferred destination for meetings, conventions and leisure travel. A private non-profit destination marketing organization with more than 1,000 partner businesses, Travel Portland operates a busy visitor information center, supports a climate of year-round hospitality, and helps our city, state and region reap the rewards of a thriving visitor industry.
Portlandia is a follow up to the Fred Armisen (SNL)/Carrie Brownstein (Wild Flag, Sleater-Kinney) comedy collaboration, Thunderant. In the IFC series (executive- produced by Lorne Michaels), the pair lovingly skewer the people and values of Portland, Ore. by introducing us to Portland archetypes like a militant bike messenger, feminist bookstore owners and an arts & crafts couple who “put birds on things.”
