PDX Contemporary Art presents John Mann Folded in Place – PDX Contemporary Art
The photographs in this series are informed by the varied ways that photography, mapping, drawing and
sculpture have each tried to describe the landscape. By incorporating each of these methods, Folded in
Place highlights the abstraction of the landscape traditionally offered by these means, while creating a
tangible photographic “place” in each image that is occupied by a mapped construction. The images
therefore provide precise photographic and mapped information while at the same time offering an
abstraction of the landscape itself.

PDX Contemporary Art presents Megan Murphy Porcelain and Other Works – PDX Contemporary Art
In Porcelain and Other Works, Megan Murphy uses historical events and locations to construct an understanding of how our contemporary selves and culture are informed by the subjectivity of recorded history. From photographs that she has taken on location Murphy produces a transparent image that she then mounts between a mirror and a sheet of glass. Then begins a process of building up and removing dozens of layers of paint and text, imbuing the paint with an internal luminosity while replicating the effects of time: actions once taken and now remembered by how they are revealed through the progression and reflection of time.

Traveling during the holidays can be exciting, eventful, memorable and a good time to reconnect with your loved ones- without worrying about the cooking. I came across this article on OregonLive.com and wanted to share with our guests. We wish you a very happy Thanksgiving and hope that you will let us know if there is ever anything else we can do to make your stay more comfortable.

Eating out on Thanksgiving – Restaurants open in Portland By Alley Hector, OregonLive.com

Not all of us want to deal with the family drama that generally ensues when Grandma and little sis’, who recently became vegan, fight over the 12 lb bird on the table. Leave the stress behind and let yourself be served.

Thankfully, many Portland area restaurants are open for Thanksgiving. Generally, you’ll to have to shell out a few bucks and make reservations as soon as possible. Here are some recommendations. Post yours below.

Jake’s Thanksgiving Buffet at the Governor Hotel
All McCormick & Schmick’s restaurants will be open for your seafood needs but if you want a buffet that will surely send you into a tryptophan coma, head out to the Governor Hotel (614 SW 11th Ave., 503-224-3400). Reservations begin at 11 am and end at 3:30 pm. $29.95 adults, $7.95 children 6-12, 5 and younger free. Call 503-241-2125 to make your reservation.

Rheinlander German Restaurant
Nothing says Thanksgiving like lederhosen. Special (meaning traditional) Dinner served 11 am-8 pm, reservations recommended.

The Heathman
This pricey Portland staple is a nice sit-down option that will please every member of the classy family. Prix fixe dining room service 11 am-9 pm. Holiday buffet 11:30 am-6 pm. The Heathman, 1001 SW Broadway., 503-790-7752. $46.50 per person ($18 for kids under 12). Call to reserve seats.

View Point Inn
For a more intimate dinner outside the city, the View Point Inn to the east with a panoramic Columbia River Gorge view is the place. And when you’ve stuffed yourself silly, you can just nab a room. At $65 a person it’s not the most frugal option, but the menu takes the traditional fare and adds significant flair, which should be worth the extra cash. View Point Inn is on the Historic Columbia River Highway, 503-695-5811.

Thanksgiving at McMenamins
Local favorites McMenamins will have a plethora of buffets at all their major locations. And at $24 per adult they’re really quite the bargain. Perhaps not as fancy as other restaurants, McMenamins always provides a warm atmosphere and plenty of room for the kids to run around in. 1 pm ’til 7 pm; reservations required | $23.95 adults; $18.95 senior; $11.95 kids 6-12; free for kids 5 and under | All ages welcome

Theatre-goers and music lovers staying at The Grand Hotel Bridgeport may be interested to know about the The Broadway Rose Theatre Company. The theatre, located just minutes from our hotel, is the only professional musical theater company in Washington County. The theatre combines nationally and locally recognized professionals with high quality production values to bring performances that rival national Broadway tours. A local favorite, The Broadway Rose Theatre was selected as the 2009 “Business of the Year” by the Tigard Chamber of Commerce.

The next production, Winter Wonderettes, The New ’60s Christmas Musical Created by Roger Bean, opens November 19 and will run through December 20. Gal-pal singing group The Marvelous Wonderettes have been invited to perform at the 1968 holiday party for Harpers Hardware Store. Beauty queen Cindy Lou, wise-crackin’ gum
chewin’ Suzy, shy gal Missy, and scrappy Betty Jean create a rockin’ lively mix of 50s and 60s holiday hits and standards. But when Santa turns up missing, the girls must use their talent and creative ingenuity, with the support of some great familiar and not-so-familiar holiday gems, to rectify their holiday party without the jolly big guy in red. The result is a marvelous show that will have you dancing in the aisles and celebrating in Winter Wonderettes style.

We’re so excited about our beautiful hotel opening in Bridgeport Village that we couldn’t resist posting some pictures of the construction. Here are a few shots:

Grand Hotel at Bridgeport - Front Exterior

This shot shows the exterior of the building from SW Hazel Fern Road, the street that is being lengthened to reach the hotel. For those of you familiar with Bridgeport Village Shopping, this is the street that leads directly into the shopping area past PF Chang’s. Directly behind the photographer is Noah’s Bagels, Starbucks, and a great sushi restaurant called Sushi Land. A few of us managers ate there the other day and I think they’ll get to know us by name shortly.

Grand Hotel at Bridgeport - Left Side

From the left side you can see that the hotel will be four stories. This is the view standing at the Claim Jumper restaurant in Tualatin looking across SW Lower Boones Ferry Road. We are very excited about the hotel’s location because not only is it an ideal location for easy access to shopping and eating, but it is also very easily accessible via Interstate 5. Business travelers will have quick and easy access to the hotel from virtually any business in the area.

Grand Hotel at Bridgeport - Lobby-to-be

This is the lobby as you walk into the front doors of the hotel. The front desk is off to the left (under the gray beam) and the gift shop is directly next to it on the right. You can see the beginnings of the balcony that will overlook the lobby. Underneath the balcony is the entrance to the hallway where guests will access guest suites, pool, workout room and the executive board room. To the right (between the scissor lifts), you can make out the entrance to our meeting room.

These are a few of my favorite shots. Please check back with us soon! We will also be updating our pictures at flickr on a regular basis at http://www.flickr.com/photos/grandhotelbridgeport/.
