Portland Couple to Receive Wedding of Their Dreams from Wish Upon a Wedding
One of the benefits of being in the hospitality industry is getting to know so many couples and hearing their story. Our Group Sales and Catering Manager, Amber Templeton, brought this very special story to our attention and wanted to share with you.
Patti Furrow and Phil Sedgwick are a Portland, Oregon couple whose 12 year relationship has been tested beyond belief. The couple has faced numerous challenges that includes a cancer diagnosis for Patty, a cancer diagnosis for Phil’s mother, job losses for both, chemotherapy, and overwhelming hospital bills.
Despite these circumstances, Phil proposed to Patty on Valentines Day this year- and the couple became engaged after a 12 years together.
Patty contacted our hotel looking for space for her reception and spoke with Amber. Her original wedding date was set for 10/10/10. Once they began chatting about the space here, Patti informed Amber of the reason for her quick wedding and shared her story.
Little did Patty know she was speaking with the Vice President on the board for the Portland chapter Wish Upon a Wedding, a nonprofit wish granting organization providing weddings and vow renewals for couples facing terminal illness and serious life-altering circumstances.
“It was at that moment that I knew the ‘planets had aligned’ and that she was meant to call me that day.” says Amber. “I told her about Wish Upon a Wedding, we went through the process and here we are, about to provide a very deserving family with the wedding of her dreams.”

Enomatic Wine System
Hotel guests are often asking our staff about some of the unique places in the Tigard / Tualatin area to try and there has been quite a bit of buzz about Split Dine in Drink in our neighboring Bridgeport Village. In fact, taking in a movie and enjoying a couple of glasses of great wines seem to be a favorite way to unwind at the end of the day.
What we like the most about Split is their selection of Enomatic Wines . Enomatic is a wine distribution system that creates a closed environment that prevents wines from oxidizing. Once a bottle is opened, the system instantaneously replaces any wine poured with an equal volume of nitrogen gas. It ensures that each glass will taste as if the bottle was just opened and it allows guests to taste premium wines without blindly committing to an entire bottle. This is a fantastic way to enjoy special wines without having to splurge for an expensive bottle. The pours are computer controlled…you can order a Taste (1 oz), 1/2 Glass (3oz) or Glass (6 oz).
They also feature a warm and relaxing atmosphere and a menu with a great mix of small plates and dinners.

Split has launched all new dinner, lunch, and happy hour menu’s with the vision and creation of new Executive Chef Russell Schillereff. Menu’s can be found in the Dine section of our site.
Sunday “Champagne Brunch” is served from 10am-2pm, with champagne $18: without $13 and children under 12 only $8.

I had the calamari appetizer and it was the best I’ve ever had. I followed that with a chicken and cheese penne pasta which was incredibly rich, but I took most of it home as leftovers, which I always nice. I had a cocktail and my date had a couple glasses of wine, which were actually quite good.
The small plates are yummy here with the chicken skewers and chicken salad topping my list. Purposely order light, so you can indulge and have some chocolate gelato for dessert.

A new addition to the holiday season, The Bridgeport Express will provide fun filled train rides around the village. This 35 passenger, solar operated train will take you to your destination. This “green” solar train is trackless and accommodates children and adults. Rides are free!

The Winter Wonderettes Opening in November!
Theatre-goers and music lovers staying at The Grand Hotel Bridgeport may be interested to know about the The Broadway Rose Theatre Company. The theatre, located just minutes from our hotel, is the only professional musical theater company in Washington County. The theatre combines nationally and locally recognized professionals with high quality production values to bring performances that rival national Broadway tours. A local favorite, The Broadway Rose Theatre was selected as the 2009 “Business of the Year” by the Tigard Chamber of Commerce.
The next production, Winter Wonderettes, The New ’60s Christmas Musical Created by Roger Bean, opens November 19 and will run through December 20. Gal-pal singing group The Marvelous Wonderettes have been invited to perform at the 1968 holiday party for Harpers Hardware Store. Beauty queen Cindy Lou, wise-crackin’ gum chewin’ Suzy, shy gal Missy, and scrappy Betty Jean create a rockin’ lively mix of 50s and 60s holiday hits and standards. But when Santa turns up missing, the girls must use their talent and creative ingenuity, with the support of some great familiar and not-so-familiar holiday gems, to rectify their holiday party without the jolly big guy in red. The result is a marvelous show that will have you dancing in the aisles and celebrating in Winter Wonderettes style.

We are proud to report our very first official event, The Grand Opening Celebration of The Grand Hotel at Bridgeport, was a big success! Clients, vendors, representatives from the Phoenix Grand Hotel, executives and others in attendance experienced the brand new hotel for the first time as they mingled through our beautifully decorated lobby and toured the luxurious rooms, business facilities, the indoor pool, hot tub, and more. We hosted the celebration on Thursday September 17 and party guests were treated to delicious hors d’oeuvres from Bentley’s Grill, sushi, beer and wine.
We marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony and General Manager, Josh Sanders was beaming with pride as he spoke and mingled among the crowd. “The hotel staff has accomplished a great deal these past few months- opening a brand new hotel is a big undertaking; and it was a wonderful experience to finally show off the achievements to the public” says Sanders. We look forward to you staying here and experience this luxurious hotel for yourself!
